More About Harvey Briggs

After spending the first 8 years of my career in Detroit as a writer and creative director working on automotive and retail brands, Harvey moved to Madison 30 years ago to join the highly creative and well respected Lindsay & Stone as a partner and creative director – and he really started to learn about the business of advertising. A year later, the agency changed its name to Lindsay, Stone & Briggs.

With Marsha Lindsay at the helm providing a solid foundation in the art and science of brand management, and Rick Stone guiding client strategy and insights, Harvey’s job was easy: work with a team of talented writers, art directors, designers, and producers to create advertising that stood out and sold products.

Over the years, Harvey had the pleasure of working with an eclectic group of companies including Valley Bank, Rippin’ Good Cookies, University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, U-Care HMO, Geneva Lakes Kennel Club, Caradco Windows, Weyerhaeuser Architectural Doors, SieMatic Kitchens, Lava Lamps, Country Kitchen Restaurants, Chiquita, and so many others.

In 2001, LSB’s focus on brands led them to develop an in-house innovation practice where Harvey worked with companies including Kimberly-Clark, Sargento, Oscar Mayer/Kraft, Birds Eye, Chiquita, and Pepsi to develop new product ideas and work with their marketing teams on positioning those products for launch.

In 2007, Harvey decided he wanted to return to his roots and begin writing again, making one of the toughest decisions of his life. He left LSB to begin a freelance career as a writer of both advertising and editorial content, with a few detours along the way. He spent two-years at Jacobson Rost advertising helping them rebuild their creative department and open their Chicago office while leading projects for Culver’s, Sargento, Miller Beer, and Mercury Marine.

Harvey continues to do freelance projects in partnership with agencies in Madison, Detroit, and New York and directly with clients that have included Pillsbury, Black and Decker, Full Compass, Koss Audio, and others.

Harvey is also currently Editor and Publisher of the website Rides & Drives where he publishes stories about cars and travel. In addition, he has written for several others including Pursuitist, Winding Road, the Awesomer, and Automotive Map.

In the course of his advertising career, his work has been awarded with numerous local, regional and national ADDYs, Effys, One Show Pencils, Clios, an Emmy, and a Gold Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival.

Harvey lives in Madison with his wife of 36 years, Lisa, and is Chairman of the board of directors of Gilda’s Club Madison and Vice President of the Midwest Automotive Media Association.
